Indian Removal Act
The Indian Removal Act passed by Congress in 1830s forced Native Indians to be “removed” to territories west of the Mississippi River. This directly lead to the Trail of Tears. The act was supported by those in the south, who needed more land to grow their plantation farms, while Christian missionaries and those in the north were against the act.
