Great Awakening II
Taking place in the 1790s among black and white southerners, the Second Great Awakening was another Religious revival movement in North America. African American converts, preachers, and lay teachers grew rapidly, which led to the rise of a distinctive form of Christianity. Black Christianity gave slaves the hope to survive and express spiritual freedom.
